A CAMPAIGN has been launched to save Moray's children's ward.
An online petition has been started by mum Jaye Thomson after NHS Grampian's decision to close the ward at Dr Gray's Hospital to overnight admissions.
That means children needing inpatient treatment will have to travel to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness or the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital.
Jaye, from Elgin, whose daughter Aaliyah (1) has type 1 diabetes, said: "I am worried that this could be the beginning of a closure plan."
However, health chiefs insist they are working to find a permanent solution and the problem has been caused by difficulty in recruiting junior doctors.
Gary Mortimer, director of acute services, said: "These interim measures have been prompted by recruitment difficulties and are not based on financial considerations."
Moray MP Douglas Ross and MSP Richard Lochhead have both met with NHS Grampian officials to discuss concerns raised with them.
The ward underwent a £142,000 refurbishment less than two years ago following a three year fundraising appeal by the Moray Friends of Archie charity committee.
